Nothing for weeks then two posts in the space of a few minutes…!
It’s less than a month now until AUTUMN is re-released in the US and UK. I’m pleased to announce that a few UK signings are being arranged (I’m working on the US – bear with me). Here are the details. Hope to see as many of you there as possible.
Saturday 30th October (12pm – 1pm) – Waterstone’s Oxford Street Plaza, London
Sunday 31st October – Grimm Up North 2 festival, Manchester
Monday 1st November (6:30pm – 8pm) – Waterstone’s Leicester Highcross
Thursday 4th November (6:00pm) – No Alibis, Belfast (with Wayne Simmons)
As I mentioned in a previous post, the AUTUMN website will be relaunching shortly and over the course of the next 18 months, a huge amount of free zombie fiction (more than 120,000 words at last count!) will gradually be made available.
I’ll be completely upfront – I’m looking for volunteer submissions and I’m not offering any payment (at this stage). But if you’re looking for a way to get exposure for your artwork, this might do the trick!
I’m getting a lot of questions about the forthcoming re-issues of the AUTUMN books in the US and UK, so I thought I should give you a proper update. I also want to talk briefly about an AUTUMN-related opportunity that some of you might be interested in.
AUTUMN will be released on 26th October in the US and on the 28th in the UK. The next three books in the series (which have been slightly reordered and are now AUTUMN: THE CITY, AUTUMN: PURIFICATION and – being released for the first time – AUTUMN: DISINTEGRATION) will be released in 2011 at three monthly intervals, starting in January/February. They’ll be hardcover releases from Gollancz in the UK (with paperbacks to follow later), and paperbacks from St Martin’s Griffin / Thomas Dunne Books in the US. Here’s the cover for the American edition of AUTUMN: THE CITY. Nice, eh? Just wait until you see what they’ve put together for PURIFICATION!
So what about the rest of the series? As it stands right now, AUTUMN: THE HUMAN CONDITION will not be re-released yet (except in Germany / Austria – more news on that later). The entire book, however, including a bunch of short novellas and over 20 ‘ECHOES‘ (short stories about some of the supporting characters from the saga) will gradually be released free online to enhance and expand the rest of the series. I mentioned an opportunity at the start of this post: I’ll shortly be relaunching www.theinfected.co.uk, and I want all this free content to be illustrated. I’ll obviously be approaching some artists I’ve worked with previously, but there will be ample opportunity for you to submit artwork for inclusion on the site. Drop me a line if you’re interested and I’ll send you a list of character sketches / scene descriptions. I don’t mind what medium you want to work in – traditional, video, photography, comic book… anything’s fine.
So there you have it. That’s the position of the books right now. Just one last thing to tease: AUTUMN is still a five book series, so there’s still something I haven’t told you…
Those of you who caught the AUTUMN books first time around will probably remember my ‘Spread the Infection’ tagline. I used it for years, and I’m sure it was responsible to some degree for the book’s journey from free pdf to half a million downloads, a movie, an audio adaptation, and now mainstream publication.
They’ve been unavailable for far too long, but the re-release of the AUTUMN series is close at hand. The first book is out in late October (US and UK – click the covers for information, Spain and Germany – you already have it!), and books two, three and four will be following in quick succession throughout 2011.
I’ll be able to give you more details about the release very soon. In the meantime, I wanted to ask a couple of favours…
First off, I want your memories of AUTUMN first time around for some articles I’m putting together. I’ve had emails from people who were freaked out reading the free download while working alone on the night shift, others who printed the pdf off and read it in class… please let me know how you found out about the series. Also, if you were involved in the book in any way and we haven’t spoken for a while (I’ve particularly been trying to get hold of Dave Joseph who created the face on the original cover if anyone can help), then please get in touch.
Secondly, I’d really appreciate it if you’d help me ‘Spread the Infection’ again. Follow me on Facebook, Friend Feed or Twitter, sign up for the newsletter (see sidebar), and invite your friends to do the same…
There’s going to be a lot going on with the accelerated re-release of the novels – including plenty of free fiction and much more – and there will be many opportunities to get involved so I’d like as many people as possible to know!
There’s a nice mention of the AUTUMN movie in Kim Newman‘s column in the July 2010 issue of Empire. “…surprisingly downbeat and intelligent, with a strong performance by Dexter Fletcher as a bewildered survivor and a showy ham cameo from David Carradine…”
Less than a week to enter the competition to win my copy of the AUTUMN movie on DVD. Here’s the question again (now removed as the competition has closed). Entries close on 31st May when a winner will be selected at random.
Things I’ve found out this week #1: the UK DVD release is region free so anyone can watch it.
Things I’ve found out this week #2: if you’re in the UK and you want to see the film today, it’s being shown on the Horror Channel again tonight at 9:00pm.
Three weeks since I last posted . . . that’s not good!
I’ve been trying to get the bulk of the third HATER book written before DOG BLOODhits the shelves next month. I’m a third of the way in to what I hope will be the final(ish) draft, and there are another few weeks work ahead of me yet. If I can get it done and delivered then that gives me much more opportunity to get out and about to promote DOG BLOOD (which, I’m pleased to report, seems to be going down well so far).
Anyway, to celebrate the release of the DVD, I’m giving away the copy I’m holding in the picture. Just answer this stupidly easy question before 31st May to be in with a chance of winning (form removed as the competition has now closed).
Finally, I know I promised more information about the ‘Projekt’ in my last post, but some unexpected (and very interesting) complications have arisen and I can’t say anything yet. Hopefully there will be some news about this in the next couple of weeks.
Here’s the information I promised in my last post about the screening of AUTUMN in Northern Ireland next month.
I’ll be introducing a 10pm screening of the film at the Queens Film Theatre in Belfast on Saturday 1st May. Prior to the film (from around 6pm) I’ll be doing a joint book signing with Wayne Simmons. You can find more information and book your tickets here.
It promises to be a great event. It’ll be my first time in Northern Ireland, and it would be fantastic to meet any of you who are able to attend.
“With AUTUMN, David Moody paints a picture of a marvelously bleak dystopian future where the world belongs to the hungry dead. It’s the creepy start to a compelling series.” –Jonathan Maberry, multiple Bram Stoker Award-winning author ofPatient ZeroandZombie CSU
“Zombie fans rejoice! One of the original zombie novels is back from the grave to remind us all why the walking dead are so scary, and what it means to have a front-row seat for the end of the world. AUTUMN is genuinely creepy, an atmospheric study of what happens when the dead come back–and what we have to do just to survive.” –David Wellington, author ofMonster Island,Monster Nation,99 Coffins
