My ongoing mission to make my entire back catalogue available as audiobooks continues with the release of THE COST OF LIVING. This is an absolutely phenomenal production by Brian Portsmouth, and even if you’ve read the book I’d recommend giving it a listen. Written in first person, Brian’s added a whole new layer of characterisation to the story with his narration, and that makes that bittersweet ending so much harder to swallow. I’m really pleased with how this one’s turned out, and I hope you enjoy it. THE COST OF LIVING is available now from Amazon, Audible and iTunes.
ONE OF US WILL BE DEAD BY MORNING is released tomorrow, and I’ve just got time to pass on a couple of snippets of information I haven’t had chance to share before.
First, the second HATER trilogy now has a name. My editor and I racked our brains long and hard about what to call the new series, and we went through a number of options before settling on our final choice. Cast your minds back to THEM OR US, and you’ll be able to find the genesis for the title… there’s no going back for the human race after the events of the HATER books. The fighting will continue until there’s no one left, so there’s no question that this is THE FINAL WAR.
Second bit of news – the ONE OF US WILL BE DEAD BY MORNING audiobook is also out this week from Macmillan Audio. The excellent chap who narrated the previous HATER audiobooks, Gerard Doyle, is back behind the microphone. Here’s an excerpt to whet your appetite.
I’d like to close this little pre-release round-up with a few words on the new book from Chris Hall of DLS Reviews. Chris has been following my work for a long time and he writes some of the most well-considered reviews on the web. So you can imagine how pleased I was when he finished off his review of ONE OF US WILL BE DEAD BY MORNING with these comments:
This is Moody doing what he does best. This is his natural environment. His turf. This is how he writes his very best work. And it’s utterly, uncompromisingly, gut-wrenching stuff. The novel rips you out of your safe and snug world and thrusts you into an environment where anyone can turn on you in the blink of an eye. It’s hard-hitting, head-poundingly tense, and drenched from head to toe in blood-splattered cruelty.
A near-perfect example of humanity fucking up as our last card is played.
The book hits the shelves tomorrow. Don’t forget, signed copies are available exclusively from www.infectedbooks.co.uk.
I’m excited to announce the release of a free JOE & ME audiobook. A joint production between This is Horror and Infected Books, and narrated by yours truly, it’ll be free to download from 2pm GMT on Tuesday 23 December. Happy Christmas!
And if you enjoy the story, why not help yourself to a festively-priced (£10 plus free delivery in the UK) copy of the limited edition hardcover edition of AUTUMN: THE HUMAN CONDITION? Simply head over to www.infectedbooks.co.uk, add the book to your cart and use code thisishorrorjoeandme at checkout.
JOE & ME is a story I’m extremely proud of. It’s a great little tale that offers a very personal glimpse into the early hours of the world-wide chaos which unfolds throughout the AUTUMN series. I’ll tell you more about it on Tuesday…
Sorry it’s been so quiet around here this last week. I’ve been flat out (honest!) and you’ll start seeing what I’ve been up to before long.
I’ve been made aware of a couple of awards that HATER has been nominated for. Firstly, RAGE, the French edition of the book, is up for the prestigious Masterton award, and you can read more about it here on the Milady blog.
Secondly, HATER has been nominated in the Best Zombie Book (Fiction) category of the Mail Order Zombie Dead Letter Awards (it’s not technically a zombie novel, I know, but hey…!). Please click here to vote and pick your favourite zombie books and films of the last 12 months.
In similar news, Mihai, owner of the very popular Dark Wolf’s Fantasy Reviews blog, listed HATER as number three in his top ten books of 2009. Mihai also listed Danny McCoyne as his favourite male character of last year! Cheers Mihai.
And finally, I was really pleased to hear that the audiobook of HATER recently won an ‘earphones award’ from AudioFile Magazine. For those of you who enjoyed the audiobook (you can download it from Audible and iTunes amongst others if you haven’t yet heard it), you’ll be pleased to hear that DOG BLOOD will also be released as an audiobook by Blackstone Audio on 8th June.
Just a quick post to announce that the audiobook edition of HATER is now available from Blackstone Audio. Also, the book is available in a number of different ebook formats from various retailers:
Amazon Kindle (US only)
Mobipocket (US, Canada, Mexico only)
Sony Reader (UK)
UPDATE – You can now listen to a sample of the HATER audiobook on the Blackstone Audio website.
