The new UK hardcover edition of AUTUMN: PURIFICATION is out now!
One day in September a virulent plague spread throughout the world, killing billions. Even now the full horror of the plague is just beginning, for the dead are not just dead…
One small group of survivors is imprisoned in an underground base, trapped between the door to the outside world and the sealed entrance to an airtight cocoon where hundreds of soldiers sit and wait for rescue.
On the surface the crowd of bodies is growing in size every day, drawn there by the heat and the noise of the people hiding underground beneath their rotting feet. The sheer mass of decaying flesh above begins to cause problems for the military when vents become blocked, but a mission to clear the dead starts a vicious battle. And there are far more of the dead…
The book is available from all usual outlets (Amazon, Waterstones, Book Depository etc.), and signed copies can be ordered from www.infectedbooks.co.uk. Enjoy!
No new story over at www.lastoftheliving.net this week (or next) I’m afraid, but I do have something for you…
With AUTUMN: PURIFICATION being released in the UK next Thursday, head over to the official AUTUMN website now to read the prologue and get yourselves in the mood for the next book in the series.
CARE – don’t read this if you haven’t read the first two books!
Today sees the release by Minotauro of CIUDAD ZOMBIE – the Spanish edition of AUTUMN: THE CITY, the first sequel to AUTUMN (SEPTIEMBRE ZOMBIE in Spain).
A very quick post to update a couple of things.
Firstly, thanks to all of you who made bids in the Genre for Japan auctions. An incredible total of £11, 139.36 was raised which I think surpassed all expectations. The AUTUMN auction went for an amazing £290!
Second, you may remember a while back (November, actually – click here for the post), I announced that I’d be making a donation to charity for every book sold in my annual end of year signed book sale. I’m pleased to have recently been able to send a cheque for £75 to SMIRA, an organisation that’s very close to my heart (and here’s a reminder why).
Thanks to everyone who contributed so generously, either by bidding on the auction or buying books. You can still get signed books, by the way. Click here to visit the Infected Books website and find out more. Copies of the new UK edition of AUTUMN: PURIFICATION will be available later this month.
This week over at www.lastoftheliving.net, another day in the life (death?) of my favourite reanimated corpse, Amy Steadman, beautifully illustrated as usual by the outrageously talented Craig Paton.
“Amy Steadman has been dead for almost five days. Her body has deteriorated to a remarkable extent. She is weakening physically, but now other, far more ominous changes are beginning to occur. Amy is becoming aware.”
No-one can fail to have been moved by the events which happened (and which continue to happen) in Japan two weeks ago. Sitting here, it’s impossible to fully comprehend the scale of the devastation and the number of lives which have been either ended or affected.
GENRE FOR JAPAN has been formed to raise funds for the Red Cross Japanese Tsunami Appeal. It’s doing this by auctioning donations from people who work in the science-fiction, fantasy and horror community. Bidding starts on Monday, and I’d like to urge all of you to consider either bidding on an item(s) or making a direct donation to the appeal.
I’m sure you’ll be tempted by many of the lots which have been donated, but I’d like to draw your attention to my donation. If you’re a fan of AUTUMN (and I sincerely hope you are!), then you might want to put a bid in…
I’m offering an exclusive opportunity for the winning bidder to become part of the AUTUMN series. As well as receiving signed copies of all the UK hardcover editions (you’ll get books 1 and 2 straightaway, book 3 next month, book 4 in November and the final book on release in 2012), you’ll also appear as a character in the final book – AUTUMN: AFTERMATH. Not only that – you’ll be able to chose whether you appear as a survivor or a zombie. Not only that – your character will get their own, original, illustrated short story published on www.lastoftheliving.net.
Sound good? Click here to check out the auctions, and please consider bidding on Monday. Thank you.
I thought it would be useful to list the new releases I have coming up for the rest of 2011 because there are quite a few. As always, please remember that these dates may be subject to change. You can always check my regularly updated FAQ page for the most up-to-date information.
And there will be an anthology appearance or two and, I think, several more foreign language editions to add to this list. So it’s looking like a busy year, and I’m really pleased. I know lots of people have been waiting for AUTUMN: DISINTEGRATION and THEM OR US for far too long…
Another week, another brief slug of free zombie fiction… This week an excerpt from the beginning of AUTUMN: THE CITY has been added to www.lastoftheliving.net, and a new story BRIGID CULTHORPE (brilliantly illustrated once again by David Naughton-Shires). Brigid’s another new character who appears in AUTUMN: PURIFICATION.
Also added to the site this week are a number of great pieces of art from Antony White. Learn more about Antony by visiting his site www.blackpapersky.co.uk. And don’t forget, you can view all the artwork so far added to www.lastoftheliving.net in the ‘art’ section. Please keep checking back, because there’s loads more to come.
This weekend just gone I was a guest at the Phoenix Convention in Dublin. A very small and informal event in comparison to the recent SFX Weekender and the like, it was a great opportunity to catch up with friends and spend a weekend in Ireland with the missus.
The convention has an almost exclusively literary focus which is refreshing. I took part in a number of panels, most notably ‘What do we do with Zombies?’ with Wayne Simmons (who surely by now needs no introduction), and Derek Gunn author of The Estuary and the popular Vampire Apocalypse books.
But it wasn’t all about the living dead (for once). Other panel topics included ‘Mission to Mars: who would you send?’ (answers ranged from George Lucas to Jedward (and if you don’t know who/what that is, I envy you), Justin Bieber and, bizarrely, Geoffrey Boycott!), and ‘Routes into Publishing’ – a discussion about the various options available to writers in today’s rapidly changing marketplace.
Another highlight for me was meeting David Naughton-Shires. For those of you who haven’t come across David, he’s the brains behind Knightwatch Press, a very active member of the Moody’s Survivors Facebook group, and a damn fine artist who’s responsible for some of the artwork over at www.lastoftheliving.net – the new AUTUMN website. David was kind enough to give me several of his original illustrations, and you’ll be able to see them shortly as more stories are added to the site. In fact, he’s illustrated the next three entries I’ll be adding. Check back tomorrow to find out how the end of the world actually turns out to be a good thing for Jim Harper, one of the characters you’ll meet in AUTUMN: PURIFICATION.
