Thanks to Mikael and the team at RELISH COFFEE in Whitley Bay for sending me a stash of HATER-inspired coffee. Excellent use of the GOLLANCZ Hater cover art, and damn fine tasting coffee. Love it!
The other day a reader sent me a volley of abuse and called me a wanker because they didn’t like the end of TRUST. Oh well, you can’t please everyone! I was a lot happier with PUBLISHERS WEEKLY’s review of ALL ROADS END HERE. Warning – slight spoilers for ONE OF US WILL BE DEAD BY MORNING and the new book follow…
Moody’s suspenseful second Final War horror novel (after One of Us Will Be Dead by Morning), continuing the second series set in the bleak and anger-filled Hater world, is a gripping take on the zombie apocalypse. Many humans have inexplicably turned into Haters, creatures fueled by an unrelenting need to kill. Matthew Dunne has been away from home for three months, battling Haters to get back to his unnamed British city. His girlfriend is understandably surprised when he shows up at the door to their house, and as he learns the new rules of his tightly controlled city, the safer and happier life he had hoped for falls apart. Matt is a typical action hero, trying to protect his woman and prove he is smarter than everyone around him. As more information about the Haters is revealed, Matt’s need to learn more drives the plot forward. Some scenes feel rushed, especially after long sections of Matt surviving by waiting and staying still. Fans of zombie thrillers will not be disappointed.
I’ve just discovered that a new edition of HATER is released this month. SALGIN (which translates as Epidemic) is about to be published in Turkey by Artemis. This is my first Turkish release, and it’s very satisfying to see new versions of the book still hitting the shelves after all this time. Incredibly, the first, self-published Infected Books edition is almost nine years old, and it’s six years since Thomas Dunne Books in the US and Gollancz in the UK gave the book its first mass market releases. I actually think HATER is more relevant today than ever. There are a lot of uncomfortable parallels to be drawn with some current world events…
But whenever I mention HATER, I get a flood of questions asking ‘what about the movie?’. You’ve had years of me telling you to be patient, that I’ll have some news soon. Just a little while longer now, I promise. Things are beginning to happen.
GOLLANCZ – publishers of the AUTUMN and HATER books in the UK and elsewhere, are running a multi-media festival on 13 August. As well as live events at Waterstones Piccadilly from 6pm, there will be online events taking place all day via social media. You can find a full schedule for the evening at the Gollancz website here, and you can register to take part in the online events by visiting www.gollancz.co.uk/gollanczfestival2014. I’ll be taking part in a Facebook fantasy panel starting at 10:00am, and I hope a few of you will be able to join us online.
I don’t know if you’re aware, but it’s Read an Ebook Week this week. This is something I’ve talked about in previous years… an annual campaign to get more folks reading ebooks. The ebook market has exploded since the event first appeared (I remember posting about back in 2007 or 2008, I think), but I’m always happy to lend some support. I don’t favour ebooks over print or vice versa, I just want people to keep reading, so the more ways there are for folks to get hold of books, the better!
If you’ve never read an ebook before, might I offer up TRUST and STRAIGHT TO YOU, the ebook editions of which are available for half-price through this week via Smashwords (use discount code REW50 at checkout). There are also literally hundreds of other novels available at a special discount from Smashwords this week – click here for the catalogue. Or, if you’ve yet to try the AUTUMN books, why not pick up the AUTUMN COLLECTION from Gollancz (which they’ve brilliantly taken to calling the ZOMNIBUS!). Five AUTUMN novels for just £12.99. Bargain!
Welcome to my office, which became noticeably smaller yesterday following the delivery (at long last) of the limited hardcover edition of AUTUMN: AFTERMATH, published by Infected Books in collaboration with Gollancz.
Nine hours (yes, really) of signing and packing and the whole lot was delivered to a very understanding chap at the post office late last night. All orders have now been dispatched, and I wanted to take this opportunity to once again thank everyone who pre-ordered the book for their support and their patience.
As you can see, the full set of UK hardcovers looks great. It’s satisfying to see all the books together (albeit almost a year and a half later than planned). There are a handful of copies of this extremely limited edition available. If you want one, you can pick one up from www.infectedbooks.co.uk or ebay.
As promised in my last post, you can now pre-order the Infected Books/Gollancz hardcover edition of AUTUMN: AFTERMATH. Do so before 10 January and your name will be included in a special section of the book.
After a series of unavoidable delays, I’m delighted to be able to announce that the long-overdue limited edition hardcover edition of AUTUMN: AFTERMATH is about to become a reality. The ink is drying on the contracts, and pre-orders will be opening on Monday 9 December. All those folks who’ve registered their interest will be contacted directly on Monday, and a further announcement will appear here on davidmoody.net. Until then, here’s a brief summary of the important points:
- the book will be published by Infected Books in arrangement with Gollancz
- it’ll exactly match the look and feel of the previous Gollancz AUTUMN hardcovers (the same printers are being used)
- it’s envisaged that the book will now be published in late January 2014
- it’ll cost £20 plus postage, though there will be a loyalty bonus/discount of 10% for those folks who’ve bought the Infected Books hardcover of AUTUMN: THE HUMAN CONDITION (see below)
- everyone who pre-orders before 10 January 2014 will have their name included in a special thank you section in the book, exclusive to this edition
Again, huge apologies for the long delays in making this book a reality and rounding out the series for those of you who’ve been collecting the UK hardcovers. Thank you for your patience and support.
Today sees the launch in the UK of two new AUTUMN releases from Gollancz. First up is THE COMPLETE AUTUMN – an ebook only collection of the five AUTUMN novels (Autumn, The City, Purification, Disintegration and Aftermath) available in all major formats: Kindle / iBook / Nook / Kobo / ePub (Waterstones) / ePub (Hive). A great way to get into the series if you haven’t yet read the books. And don’t forget, for full completeness you can also pick up THE HUMAN CONDITION for the bargain price of £1.99!
Also available from today is the mass market paperback edition of AUTUMN: AFTERMATH (Amazon / Book Depository / Waterstones / Hive / Indiebound). There are a few copies available at www.infectedbooks.co.uk – the Infected Bookstore.
I know many of you are waiting for news about the limited edition AFTERMATH hardcover… it’s coming. I’m sorry it’s taking so long. I’ve been in conversation about it this week and hope to open pre-orders (with a cool little addition for those folks pre-ordering) before the end of October. For those who’ve yet to hear about this project, click this link for more information.
