Just another few weeks and I’ll be back updating this website more regularly with news (promise). In the meantime, allow me to introduce you to GERAINT WYN: ZOMBIE KILLER. Book #5 in Infected Books’ YEAR OF THE ZOMBIE is a cracking and very funny little tale which puts a uniquely Welsh perspective on the zombie apocalypse.
When Wayne and I sat down to plan YEAR OF THE ZOMBIE, we knew we wanted a mix of authors and a mix of very different stories. The last thing we wanted was twelve identical versions of the same tired zombie tropes. I think the contrast between each of the volumes we’ve so far released shows that there is a huge amount of variety available with the living dead.
I’ve been really pleased with how well the Voodoo Press German edition of TRUST has been received, and today the book hit a new milestone. We’re number one! Congratulations to Michael Preissl and his team. I’m looking to the Voodoo Press releases of THE COST OF LIVING, ISOLATION and STRAIGHT TO YOU coming soon.
How can it be March already? We’re onto book #3 of YEAR OF THE ZOMBIE, and I’m thrilled to introduce a cracking little tale from a star of indie publishing. THE YACHT by IAIN ROB WRIGHT hooks you in from the very first line and doesn’t let you go. I know I’m biased, but it’s brilliant. Pick up a copy now from AMAZON.COM or AMAZON.CO.UK.
Even millionaires get seasick…
What’s intended as a little quality time aboard their luxury yacht quickly turns deadly for Emily and Ross Tyler. Something else came aboard their yacht, you see. Something besides their marital difficulties and stresses of the world. And it’s out for blood.
Following the devastating outbreak of an alien virus, Eddie and his young grandson struggle to survive within the wasteland of Great Britain. They live day-to-day, scavenging among the ruins, trying to avoid the deadly infected that now roam the land. But Eddie has other demons to conquer: a longstanding drink problem that needs to be kept in check if he wants to keep both himself and his young charge alive.
When a stranger enters their lives, seeking help, Eddie is forced to make a choice that could alter their lives forever.
Most of you will know by now that 2016 has been officially designated YEAR OF THE ZOMBIE by Infected Books – 12 months, 12 original zombie novellas. We kicked things off in style earlier this month with Adam Baker’s well-received KILLCHAIN, and we’re looking forward to launching novella #2 at the beginning of February.
As I’ve mentioned previously, 11 of the 12 slots have already been filled by a host of well-known zombie authors. We’re planning on finding author number 12 by running an exclusive PITCH AND PAGE competition (we want you to sell your story to us by submitting a 25 word pitch and a 250 word first page). I’ll be judging entries alongside respected literary agent Gina Panettieri and head of Voodoo Press, Michael Preissl. The competition will run for 6 months from 6 February and the winner will get the prestigious Halloween slot. We’ve just announced full entry details over at the Infected Books site and if you have any questions, feel free to ask via the dedicated thread on the IB Facebook page.
This is a great opportunity to be a part of a project I’m really excited about. After sharing my zombie stories with you for the last fifteen years, I’m looking forward to you finally getting your revenge and bombarding me with undead nightmares of your own. Good luck!
I was recently interviewed by Michelle Baker for her www.successcircuit.com site, and you can read it here. I hope you enjoy it. Michelle asked some very interesting questions, which made for a great conversation.
And here, for your Sunday afternoon viewing pleasure (though there’s not much pleasure in looking at my mug) is the third part of my conversation about characters and plot development with Suzanne Robb and Emma Ennis of the Fresh and Untitled podcast.
Elize arrives in Mogadishu with instructions to assassinate a Russian embassy official. She has tactical command of a US kill-team, CIA operatives, rookies and veterans of a dozen war zones. It should be a straightforward hit but her luck is about to run out. She will soon find herself trapped in a city gone to hell, struggling to complete her mission in the face of betrayal, a spreading pandemic and a population hungry for flesh…
KILLCHAIN is available now from Amazon. A print collection of all the novellas will be available at the end of the year, and you can find out more about YEAR OF THE ZOMBIE over at www.infectedbooks.co.uk. Don’t forget, we’ve got space for one more author… our ‘Pitch and Page’ competition will be launching shortly.
It’s fifteen years next year since AUTUMN was first released. Back then there were very few zombie novels about, and the living dead were nowhere near as prevalent in the mainstream as they are today. How things have changed. But AUTUMN’s not the only anniversary coming up… 2016 also marks the fifteenth birthday of INFECTED BOOKS.
I reckon we should celebrate, so I’m putting these two events together and designating 2016 as YEAR OF THE ZOMBIE.
Next year Infected Books will be releasing twelve zombie novellas – one per month – from eleven of the best zombie writers out there. But wait… check the maths… It doesn’t add up – twelve releases but only eleven authors? That’s where YOU come in. From the press release:
“As part of YEAR OF THE ZOMBIE, we’ll be running a very special Pitch & Page comp via the Infected Books Facebook page. The comp will be judged by our very own Dragon’s-Den-esque panel of bestselling horror author and IB head honcho, David Moody, US literary agent, Gina Panettieri and Micheal Preissl of German and English language publisher, Voodoo Press. The winner will join our 11 established authors to have their novella released as part of Infected Books’ YEAR OF THE ZOMBIE. How cool is that?
And if that ain’t enough, we’ll have a few more surprises along the way, as well as a heap of zombie-themed prizes and giveaways courtesy of our sponsors.
So hang onto your hair, kids – 2016 is YEAR OF THE ZOMBIE… and it’s going to be brutal.”
I can’t wait for you to see who we’ve got lined up for this. More details in the coming weeks.
A spate of brutal murders occur in and around the small town of Thussock. The bodies of the dead – savagely mutilated, unspeakably defiled – are piling up with terrifying speed. There are no apparent motives and no obvious connections between the victims, but the killings only began when Scott Griffiths and his family arrived in Thussock…
Time flies. It’s a year today since STRANGERS was released, so I thought I’d give the book a little first anniversary love. It’s a novel I’m very proud of. I set out to write a quick and bloody horror story – the kind of pulpy tale I’ve always loved to read – and that’s exactly what I did. The book’s had some great reviews, but I think what I’ve been most pleased about is the reaction to the characters. I can’t recall ever writing about quite anyone like Scott Griffiths before. He’s an arrogant, misogynist prick, and your reactions to him have been great. You’ve found him as vile as I hoped you would!
“STRANGERS is easily Moody’s best work to date, a dark, disturbing and visceral book that gives him a legitimate claim to the title of Britain’s Best Living Horror Author that was left vacant by James Herbert’s untimely death.” — This is Horror
“I can’t stress enough how utterly captivating STRANGERS is. It’s addictive reading from start to finish. And it proves once and for all that there’s a hell of a lot more to Moody than the end of the world.” —DLS Reviews
STRANGERS is available now from all the usual outlets. You can get hold of a signed copy of the paperback (along with a free ebook version and free UK delivery) for the bargain price of £7.50 as part of the Infected Books BLACK CHRISTMAS promotion.
