I’m very, very, VERY excited to announce that Infected Books will be taking over the huge High Street Birmingham branch of Waterstones this Halloween (actually Halloween eve, but it’s close enough). You are cordially invited to join Wayne Simmons, myself, and other Infected Books alumni as we launch new books (Wayne and Andre Duza‘s VOODOO CHILD), read from new, as yet unannounced books, and maybe even reveal why 2016 is shaping up to be the year of Infected Books.
This is going to be an absolutely brilliant evening, so put it in your diaries and please do come along if you can (Halloween-themed fancy dress optional but strongly encouraged). Keep an eye on the Waterstones event page here. Things kick off at 7:00pm on Friday 30 October.
Wayne and I will also be appearing at the Bristol Horror Con at the Future Inn, Bristol a couple of weeks earlier on 17 October. Filling the space vacated by Wayne’s short-lived but already much-missed SCARDiff, it’s another one I’m really looking forward to. More details can be found here. Update 11 October – unfortunately Wayne and I are now unable to attend the Bristol event. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
Unfortunately it looks like I’m now not going to be able to make it, but I wanted to give a plug to this year’s SCARDiff on 19 October. Last year’s inaugural expo was one of the best events of 2013, so can I urge everyone who can to get themselves down to Cardiff for a day chockfull of cracking horror. Tickets are a miserly £6.66 – an absolute steal. Click the image below or visit the website at www.scardiff.co.uk to find out more.
A belated thank you to everyone involved in putting together the magnificent SCARdiff festival in Cardiff a couple of weeks back. It was an excellent event – very well attended and supported. This was a horror expo created by fans of the genre for fans of the genre, and as such it was a huge success. Congratulations to Wayne and the team. I got to hang out with some great folks, and I’ve posted a few photographs below (one stolen from Rich Hawkins, the other from Zoe Millard – hope you don’t mind, Zoe and Rich!). You’ll also find a clip from S4C (in Welsh) about the Expo which, even though you probably won’t understand it, will give you a better indication of how great a day it was than I could if I wrote for another couple of pages…

This coming weekend sees the second AUTUMN: HORROR IN THE EAST convention in Lowestoft. It’s a FREE event, so if you’re in the area please come down and say hello. This year sees a rare showing of the BBC’s notorious GHOSTWATCH with special guests in attendance. Can’t wait. All the details you need are here.
A quick report back and a word of thanks to the organisers of Grimmfest for having Wayne and I along again this year. Although time restrictions meant we were only there on Sunday, we got to catch up with many fine folk and take in a couple of good movies: WITHER – a passable Swedish Evil Dead-esque tale and STALLED – one of the most original zombie movies I’ve seen in a long time (and yes, people are still making original zombie movies). I’ll get a full write-up of STALLED put together in the coming days. I think you’ll enjoy it.
Highlight of the day, though, was Wayne and I hosting a Q&A with Christian James and Richard Kerrigan (director and producer of STALLED), Paul Davis (director of THE BODY – a great little short) and Dominic Brunt (director of the magnificent BEFORE DAWN and a new short, SHELLSHOCKED). A lot of fun and an appreciative audience.
It’s always great to be at Grimm, and I heartily recommend you try and make next year’s festival if you can. There’s a very cool and relaxed atmosphere, a load of excellent films, and Sim, Steve, and the rest of the guys behind the event are passionate fans of (and contributors to) the horror genre. Watch for Sim’s second feature, WHITE SETTLERS coming soon. Keep an eye on www.grimmfest.com for details of next year’s festival and other screenings and events throughout the year.
Next up for me is SCARDIFF on 27 October at the Mercure Holland House Hotel, Cardiff. I’ll be there all day, alongside a load of great guests including the mighty Bobby Rhodes – Tony the pimp in Lamberto Bava’s classic DEMONS. Ticket prices are held at £6.66 until 13 October, but get in quick because they’re selling fast. More details here at www.scardiff.co.uk.
I’ve just confirmed a couple of dates, so I thought now would be a good time to let you know about a few events I’ll be attending before the end of 2013.
GRIMMFEST – 3/10/13 – 6/10/13
Manchester’s brilliant international festival of horror and cult films again takes place at The Dancehouse Theatre this October. Another great collection of eclectic films are showing. Full information can be found at www.grimmfest.com, and I’ll be there on Sunday 6 October.
SCARDIFF 2013 – 27/10/13
A brand new horror event in Cardiff, organised by Fantasy Events, Shock Horror Magazine, and good friend Wayne Simmons. It takes place at the Mercure Holland Hotel, and I’ll be there all day. It promises a brilliant mix of guests and you can find much more information at Scardiff.co.uk.
AUTUMN: HORROR IN THE EAST 2 – 8/11/13 – 9/11/13
A return trip to Lowestoft – the spiritual home of the HATER books! – for this gem of a convention. Highly recommended. I’ll be there, and I hope many of you will be able to support this brilliant free event at the Aspire Centre. More information at www.horrorintheeast.com.
DAY OF THE UNDEAD – 16/11/13
Finally, it’s back to the Phoenix, Leicester for Terror4Fun’s 2013 Festival of Zombie Culture. Twelve hours of zombie movies, special effects, games, competitions… I don’t really need to say anything more! Details here at the Terror4Fun website.
Between July 31 and August 3, I’ll be a guest at Celsius in Avilés, Spain. Details can be found here. Very much looking forward to my first event in Spain!
Scardiff is a new horror expo taking place in Cardiff on October 27. I’ll be there alongside a number of really exciting guests including Dominic Brunt and Bobby Rhodes (yes, the Bobby Rhodes of Demons fame!). Scardiff is the brainchild of Wayne Simmons, Fantasy Events, and Shock Horror Magazine. Reduced price advance tickets are now available, and all the information you need can be found right here.
HORROR IN THE EAST
And then it’s back to Lowestoft on November 8 – 9 for the second Horror in the East convention. Have a look at last year’s report to see what an excellent event it was, then make a note in your diaries to come and join us for this year’s convention. Very relaxed, hugely enjoyable, and all taking place in the town where Them or Us was set! More details can be found here.
