I’m incredibly excited to announce that CRAIG PATON has agreed to design the covers for the new AUTUMN trilogy I’m currently writing. I couldn’t be happier. Craig has produced some iconic covers for me over the years – TRUST, AUTUMN: THE HUMAN CONDITION, STRAIGHT TO YOU and STRANGERS. Recently, he’s had a huge amount of success with KILLTOPIA – a cyberpunk graphic novel he created alongside writer DAVE COOK.
I’d planned to post here tonight to promote Craig’s new project – HARDCODE – but he’s doing a hell of a job promoting it himself. The recently launched Kickstarter was funded within 6 hours! Stretch targets are now in place, and the support is flooding in. Please check out the Kickstarter embedded below and consider backing Craig’s project.

You might remember me waxing lyrical about a superb indie zombie film from a couple of years back called THE BATTERY. It was an excellent example of how low budgets and limited resources are no obstacle to success if you’ve got a strong vision and are dedicated to your project. THE BATTERY was an extremely original movie, and it looks like the film-makers’ next release – TEX MONTANA WILL SURVIVE! – is going to be equally inventive.
There’s a Kickstarter campaign running throughout February, and I urge you to support it. Not least because this is a campaign with a HUGE difference. The film is complete, already in the can, and the team behind it intend to use their crowdfunding campaign to release it FOR FREE, WORLDWIDE, as soon as the campaign ends (27 days and counting). As someone whose career was launched by giving their work away for free (if you’re late to the party, the first AUTUMN novel was available as a free download in the early 2000’s), I completely appreciate how big a deal this is for Jeremy Gardner, Christian Stella, and Adam Cronheim. Please view the Kickstarter video I’ve embedded here, check out the campaign, and pledge your support.
I owe an apology to director Lawrie Brewster and writer Sarah Daly. After watching (and loving) their 2013 feature, LORD OF TEARS, I asked Sarah to answer a few questions for an article on this site. Events have since conspired against me, and I hadn’t been able to post the piece until now. Why now? Because their new movie THE UNKINDNESS OF RAVENS is currently in its last few days of Kickstarter funding, and it’s tantalisingly close to hitting its target. I urge you to watch the video below and get involved. If LORD OF TEARS is anything to judge the new movie by, your investment will be worth every penny.
I wanted to take this opportunity to talk a little about LORD OF TEARS, not least because one of the RAVENS’ Kickstarter perks is this incredible limited edition action figure of LoT’s iconic and nightmarish Owlman.
LORD OF TEARS is a unique, beautifully filmed and paced, haunting movie which is truly worth your time. It tells the story of schoolteacher James who, haunted by horrific nightmares, returns to his childhood home in the Scottish Highlands. There he meets a mysterious woman whilst being plagued by visions of the terrifying Owlman. Once you’ve checked out the Kickstarter for RAVENS, click the link below to read more about LORD OF TEARS.
Please note – if you’re trying to track LORD OF TEARS down, a repackaged and retitled version of the film – OWL MAN – is coming in 2016.
