Remember these little beauties? If you’ve been following my work since the early days, you might remember these bloody HATER t-shirts which were popular when the novel was originally released in 2009. Now, because lots of you have been asking, they’re back. Click here or on the image below for more details.
By the way, today marks two weeks until the release of CHOKEHOLD – the absolute final HATER novel. It’ll be published on 19 November by Thomas Dunne Books and will be available from all the usual bookstores and online outlets. You can also pre-order signed copies here.
A lot of people have asked how the six books in the two HATER series tie together. Here’s my answer.
The HATER series is available now in print, ebook and audiobook (US and Canada only). The final book in the series – CHOKEHOLD – is out on 19 November from Thomas Dunne Books.
Hard to believe that HATER IS TEN YEARS OLD TODAY! The book was actually published back in 2006 through Infected Books, but after Guillermo del Toro became involved and I signed with Thomas Dunne Books, the Infected Books edition disappeared from the shelves. HATER was a bigger success than I could have ever expected, and the Hate shows no sign of slowing down. The reaction to ALL ROADS END HERE (published last week) has been great, and we’re still working on the movie. I’ll have news about the release of CHOKEHOLD, the absolute final book in the series, in the next couple of weeks.
Just a quick reminder that the next HATER novel – ALL ROADS END HERE, the sequel to 2017’s ONE OF US WILL BE DEAD BY MORNING – is out on 12 February from Thomas Dunne Books. It’ll be out in paperback, ebook and audiobook and, as with previous releases, I’ll be offering signed copies via the Infected Books website. Orders will open in the next week.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this one. It dives right back into the heart of the first HATER trilogy, whilst telling a completely new story. There’s lots of cross-over with the original books, and it sets up the HUGE confrontation which you’ll read about in CHOKEHOLD, the absolute final HATER novel, which I hope will be out later in 2019.
The other day a reader sent me a volley of abuse and called me a wanker because they didn’t like the end of TRUST. Oh well, you can’t please everyone! I was a lot happier with PUBLISHERS WEEKLY’s review of ALL ROADS END HERE. Warning – slight spoilers for ONE OF US WILL BE DEAD BY MORNING and the new book follow…
Moody’s suspenseful second Final War horror novel (after One of Us Will Be Dead by Morning), continuing the second series set in the bleak and anger-filled Hater world, is a gripping take on the zombie apocalypse. Many humans have inexplicably turned into Haters, creatures fueled by an unrelenting need to kill. Matthew Dunne has been away from home for three months, battling Haters to get back to his unnamed British city. His girlfriend is understandably surprised when he shows up at the door to their house, and as he learns the new rules of his tightly controlled city, the safer and happier life he had hoped for falls apart. Matt is a typical action hero, trying to protect his woman and prove he is smarter than everyone around him. As more information about the Haters is revealed, Matt’s need to learn more drives the plot forward. Some scenes feel rushed, especially after long sections of Matt surviving by waiting and staying still. Fans of zombie thrillers will not be disappointed.
The advance copies of ALL ROADS END HERE are in, and will be winging their way to reviewers shortly. Looking forward to hearing what people think of this book which picks up shortly after the events of ONE OF US WILL BE DEAD BY MORNING. It’s a parallel sequel, which takes place in the same place and at the same time as DOG BLOOD.
The book is published in February next year by Thomas Dunne Books and is available to pre-order today. Not yet caught up with the FINAL WAR series? Pick up a copy of ONE OF US WILL BE DEAD BY MORNING and experience the other half of the HATER story.

“She gasps for breath, her mind in overload, struggling to work out what, who, how, and why? and at the same time trying to cope with the most horrific pain imaginable. It fills her whole body, hurting so much it steals her breath from her lungs. Her arms give way and she hits the deck and rolls over onto her back, looking up into the rain and spray. She’s numb and slow to move, and the chain lashes down again and again. She instinctively raises her hands to protect her face, but it does her no good. Busted fingers, split skin, broken teeth, more blood, and so much more pain that it almost stops hurting.”

First reviews are coming in for the new HATER book, and I’m pleased folks seem to be enjoying it. Here’s the KIRKUS review of the book… They’re saying it’s “another wetwork nightmare that should delight fans of Haters and intrigue writers who wallow in the genre” which sounds good to me!
